Kinky Hair after Hair Transplant is not Normal

I had a patient from Georgia come in yesterday and she had very kinky looking hair. I could immediately spot it as a bad hair transplant. And she asked her doctor, Hey, is it normal to have hair that grows out kinky? She’s a Caucasian female. And I said, honestly, no, it is due to the placement. In other words, graft placement. So when grafts are placed traumatically inserted, you know, with very aggressive pinching of forceps and pressure insertion, they can cause traumatic injury to the graft and cause the grafts to grow out in a fashion or more offensively like pubic hair. And she says, yeah, that’s what my daughter said looked like. And this is why it’s so important to have not only a good surgeon, but an amazing team that is working with you and so hair should really grow out softer.

The other thing that I’ve noticed is that besides a traumatic insertion of grafts, ATP and I put hypothermia salt are the storage media with the grafts are stored into and also sprayed on the scalp for the first few days afterwards, I started doing this in 2014. And even though my staff are probably one of the best in the world in terms of minimizing the risk of injury to the grafts, I noticed since 2014, my grafts even look finer, healthier, and even more pristine and that is one thing really good. In fact, I was looking at a patient in my room recently, I was doing a pre-op for him. And I was asking him if he had a hair transplant before because he looked like, I mean, it didn’t look like he had anything done. And his plan that I was planning to do, I looked at it and the plan was from a year ago apparently.

And I said, well, it doesn’t look like you even need anything done. And then he said, yeah, you did my hair transplant. I couldn’t find any incision on the back. I couldn’t find anything. These grafts looked so natural up close and I realized the reason for it is I think part of it is obviously what I did as a surgeon, but also what my staff did, but also what ATP and hypothermia salt did. So grafts should grow out as natural as the hair grows in the back of your scalp, they should not look kinky, a wirey that has a lot to do with the person placing the grafts as well as the use of ATP. So kinky hair is not normal after a transplant. If you didn’t have it to begin with.
