Exosomes are intercellular (between cells) messengers that control signaling that have been used to treat hair loss. Stem cells can be derived from multiple sources that are used to be injected for purported hair-growth results. At this time, Dr. Lam does not offer exosomes or stem cells for two main reasons. First, he has seen many exosome results which have not led to any discernible outcomes in the vast majority of patients despite very high price tags and second, simply put, they are not approved for use by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). For more on the FDA position on these therapies, please read the Consumer Alert on fda.gov.

Recently, exosome therapy has been promoted for use in hair regeneration. However, Dallas hair transplant surgeon Dr. Sam Lam does not believe exosomes provide significant benefit not to mention the current illegality of their use as stated on fda.gov.
